10 Unique Baby Shower Gifts

Before becoming a mom, I had been to my fair share of baby showers.  I never knew what to get!  Yes, many mamas will have a registry, but not all.  And it can become even more of a challenge when you’re trying to find a gift for a seasoned mama who is on her second, third, etc. pregnancy.

I am here to save the day!  Here are some unique baby shower gifts to consider for your next gift-giving — or perhaps items to consider for your own registry.

1. Puppy Pads

Starting strong with #1: consider puppy pads!  I had a wonderful friend of a friend (and mama x3!) recommend these.  She suggested using them as a disposable cover for your changing table, as a quick change pad for on-the-go, or as a splat pad to place under the highchair of your messy little one.

In addition to all of the above, I also found them to come in handy when using changing stations in public restrooms, for placing beneath the fitted sheet to protect the mattress under baby, and to protect the couch/bed in the early postpartum days.

Using puppy pads was one of the most genius pieces of advice I received while pregnant and I absolutely love paying it forward and gifting a box of these to new mamas!

2. Butt Paste Spatula

The “diaper cream brush” aka butt paste spatula was an unexpected discovery.  My partner and I are strong proponent of diaper cream, but the stuff gets everywhere!  The cream is by design very effective at sticking to skin, making it a hassle to get off of your hands after applying.  We tried cleaning our hands with baby wipes, using the inside of the clean diaper, or using the edge of the puppy pad, but ultimately I turned to Amazon in search of a solution.

Enter, the butt paste spatula!  This ingenious little device is a silicone spatula designed to help apply butt paste to your sweet baby angel’s tush.  After our first few uses, we were hooked.  Now, I even pack mine to go if we are going to be away from home for any extended period of time.

It has become another item I can’t live without and it is a fun and silly gift to give to new or experienced mamas.  After the novelty wears off, expect an appreciative text as another grateful mom is converted to being a butt spatula mama!

P.s. The best way to get butt paste off your little one’s bottom is with a diaper wipe dipped in a bit of Vaseline.  It works like magic!

3. Mama/Body Care Products

Gentle skincare products can be a welcome gift, especially for use in the hospital or to have close by when breastfeeding. They are a great addition to a breastfeeding cart if you are making one, or to throw in mama’s purse or diaper bag.

One of my must-have skincare products in CeraVe Ointment.  It can be used as a glossy lip mask on its own, or layered with moisturizers for intense hydration of the hands or body.

The Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream is another great option for a moisturizer that can fit in baby’s diaper bag. Unlike my beloved CeraVe Ointment, the Neutrogena cream absorbs quickly into the skin without any greasy residue.  Both products are gentle on sensitive skin without significant fragrance, dyes, etc.

4. Gift Cards

Every Mama needs gift cards.  There are so many great options that this can feel like a personalized gift.

Here is my list of Thoughtful Gift Cards for New Mamas

5. Messy Eater Spray

I am a Messy Eater Spray convert.  I have graduated to the level of purchasing bulk bags to refill my spray bottles!  Messy Eater Spray is an affordable, gender neutral, all around fantastic gift idea that fits well in any new mama gift basket.

6. Cute & Comfy PJs

Many baby shower gifts are aimed at babies (it can be hard to resist the aisles of adorable onesies!), but a baby shower is also a great time to spoil mama.  In the post partum period, it can be difficult to feel cute.  Gifting a new mama stylish and functional pajamas can be a sweet way to shower new mamas with love. I personally lived in these cute, button-up nightgowns, and my friend was excited to get my hand-me-downs!

In addition to being cute, the material is lightweight and soft, while the button front provides east access for breastfeeding. The nightgown design also allows for a full outfit without any uncomfortable waist band as your new mama body continues to change and heal.

7. Breast Feeding Gel Pads

No matter how many pregnancies a mama has had, she will always need breast feeding care products.  I like these soothing gel pads because they can be stored in the refrigerator to maximize relief.  These were recommended by my lactation consultant and I think they’re great!

I also like gifting mama something that won’t be adding to the clutter of never ending baby items.  Once the gel pads re no longer useful, they are discarded and out of the way.

8. Haakaa Ladybug

The Haakaa Ladybug is a “silicone milk collector.”  When breastfeeding baby, you simple place the lightweight Haakaa on the other breast.  This collects the letdown from the opposite side, while also preventing milk from leaking on mama’s clothes.

I received this myself as a baby shower gift and got tons of use out of it.  It actually collected a substantial amount of milk that I was able to collect and store–all while simultaneously nursing baby!  This helped build my freezer stash in the early days post partum which was a gift that kept on giving once I returned to work.

9. Gifts That Include Older Siblings

My sister-in-law recently had a baby shower for her third baby.  One of the sweetest gifts she received was a couple of presents that were gifted for her existing two children.  Not only was this a way to make them feel special and included, but it also kept them busy while mama was able to focus on opening other gifts.

10. Customized Book of Names and Faces

There are a few different companies that make personalized baby books, but I find the Shutterfly platform to be user-friendly, dependable, and frequently running promotions for deals like 50% off photo books!

I gifted one of these to my nephew and later made one for my own baby.  You essentially choose your photos, add in names, customize with different color or patterns, and then place your order!  Soon after, you receive a cardboard book with the faces of all the people baby loves.  This is an exceptionally cute and personalized gift that will help baby learn the names and faces of the people closest in your lives.

I also love the fact that baby can chew, drool, and destroy the book, but you can easily print another from your saved project in Shutterfly!
